Closing Canadian L.A. Weight Loss Offering Members “LA on the Go” Phone Counseling

November 28, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

According to the Chronicle Herald, all the L.A. Weight Loss Atlantic Canadian franchise centers are closing Dec. 5, 2008.  Instead, they will offer a phone-counseling service called “LA on the Go” to their stranded members.  According to the Chronicle-Herald:

David Shneer, president and CEO of LAWL Maritimes Inc., said in an email Tuesday that the company, which operates LA Weight Loss Centres in Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford and Sydney, is changing its business model. “Over the weekend, we decided for two main reasons that we cannot continue to operate the centre-based business,” he said. “So we have informed our centres that we are going to close.”

Mr. Shneer… said LA Weight Loss clients have the option of continuing with the company’s LA On the Go program or requesting a refund. The LA On the Go program was designed for clients who could not visit the centres, he said. “It provides them with weekly one-on-one counselling but just over the phone instead of in the centre,” he said. “They also still have the same access to optional products.”

LA WEIGHT LOSS: Employee Alleges Unethical Closing Practices

October 17, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

Sarah states that she was encouraged to sell long-term contracts prior to closing:
“A FEW DAYS AGO I WAS GIVEN THAT INFORMATION AS WELL. I LEFT MY POSITION AT L.A. WEIGHTLOSS 2 WEEKS AGO BECAUSE I KNEW THAT SOMETHING “FISHY” WAS GOING ON. I WAS TOLD VIA MY SUPERIOR THAT, IN NOT SO MANY WORDS, I HAD TO CONFORM TO THE RULES OR SEEK OTHER EMPLOYMENT. THE NEW “RULES” WERE TO CALL PEOPLE ALL DAY AND BASICALLY ASK THEM TO COME BACK IN AND TRY TO SELL THEM SOMETHING, ANYTHING!! IM SORRY TO SAY, BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT I WAS HIRED TO DO NOR DOES IT MAKE ME HAVE THAT “FEEL GOOD FEELING ABOUT MYSELF”…. I TOTALLY SAW WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND WAS KINDA FORCED OUT SINCE I WASN’T BEING A GOOD ROLL MODEL TO THE OTHER EMPLOYEES. ( I HAD WORKED THERE QUIT AWHILE). I UNDERSTAND THAT THE ONES STAYING OPEN ARE ONLY OFFEREING ONE TYPE OF PROGRAM THAT NEEDS TO BE PAID FOR BY C.C. AND HAS AN AUTO RE-NEW CONTRACT ON IT TO BE CHARGED EVERY 6 WEEKS… WHAT THE ????? IM NOT HAPPY ABOUT SEEING THIS COMPANY GO THROUGH THIS, BECAUSE IT IS A GREAT PROGRAM, BUT JUST THINK THAT NEW AND CURRENT CLIENTS SHOULD BE “SMART” AND DO THEIR RESEARCH PRIOR TO JOINING “ANY” KIND OF PROGRAM IN THIS BLEAK TIME.”
