LA Weight Loss Took Our Money, Then Closed

Comments and complaints are pouring in from LA Weight Loss customers who are finding themselves without their weight loss program, without the products they paid for, and without a way to get a refund. Vicki Carter wrote: “Hi i know how you all feel as well, i joined LAWL the beginning of oct 08 and then brought a friend with the bring a friend promotion, we were never told that the business was having problems, they took our money talked me into getting a visa card to pay for my bulk bars, and then announced they were closing the office in our area down and that we’d have to go to an office an hour away. then the next week we hear they’ve gone bankrupt, we filled out our refund papers as to date have not heard a damn thing from them… i too am tryoig to understand how a company that charges so much money and had so many offices could have gone bankrupt. i’m wondering if i’ll ever see my $300 odd again, i was lucky enough to have only had like 10 box’s of bulk left and went and got them very quickly…” Have you been burned by LA Weight Loss?  Share your story below.

  1. Contact your state’s Attorney General’s office. Let them know these complaints are national, per state. We need to get as many class-action lawsuits going as possible.

  2. they owe me 399.00. i have my original contract. the 800 # they give you to call has been busy for over 6 months. then i finally reach a real person at 1-208-522-5615. they tell me i can continue my program with a counsler that will call me once a week over the phone. i never even had my initial meeting for the program. all i did was go in, paid them 399-00, (and another 78-00 for some horse pills ive never taken) for 399-00, and someone will call me on the phone, what a joke!
what amazes me is the fact that they still have all sorts of websites advertising laweight loss, there are news articles from many states and canada claiming what a rip off scam they are, so why hasn’t anything been done about it? why are their websites still active? why are so many of us out of $$$ and not getting refunds? i havent found anywhere that tells us where and how to go about getting our $$$$$$$$$$. if anyone knows anything please, help!!!

  3. They took our renewal fee and our stock of bars and closed the doors, Barrie, On, Canada. There was a bailiffs note on the door of our meeting place when we went to weigh in. Two weeks prior they were selling, out of code merchandise, so they said at half price. Little did we know that they were not paying their rent and selling our merchandise at the 50% sale. How do we get our money back?

  4. Kelly, did you see these…..

  5. After reading all these complaints I sent a email to Consumer Reports. They to have alot of information and complaints on LA Weight Loss. I did put in my complaint at the end it asks if you want to be contacted by a lawyer to just check the box. I’m out $1200. I also have a call into the company I have to make payments to to see if I have to continue making payments on behalf of LA Weight Loss or not. I haven’t had a response back yet.

Does anyone know if they have gone bankrupt? Consumer reports only says they have class acts on them now. Nothing about bankruptcy. Has anyone contacted an attorney general in their area? If you have, have you had any results from this?

  6. I joined in July but live out of the area the center was in and had to drive over 1 hr to get there which they said I could call in weekly with my weight and come in once a month. 2 weeks later my husband got very ill. I may have made 3 visits over the next 5 months, too busy to stay on the prgram tying to take care of a very sick man. When they called me in early Nov. I told them I was going to way until the first of the year and start from the beginning, after all I paid them 712 plus dollars. My husband passed away on the 22 of January so I had tried calling several times a day but the phone wouldn’t work. Went on line only to find out there were closing centers. Called the Better Business Bureau and they couldn’t do anything. Called the cc people that I fianced it through but because I paid it in full when I got the bill the could do nothing. Now I am told to contact the Attorney General for my state or find an attorney. Attorneys are not free and I do not have money to hire one, I have large medical bills and a funeral to pay for. How can they get away with this and not be held accountable?

  8. I have had great success with the LA Weight Loss program and my husband and I genuinely enjoyed the bars.. three in particular, Double Chocolate, peanut butter and coconut. I was heavily pressured into buying a substantial number at the “discounted” rate pretty close to my reaching goal weight. We planned to eat them as a treat and, if necessary, to keep our new weights stable. Trouble is the kind we liked were,at this point, rarely in stock! I waited, confident they would come in and then, whammo! they are closing down! I am out a substantial amount and still see ads for LA Weight Loss and many opportunities to buy the bars online. I have already paid for these bars and they are produced somewhere so it should be possible to have them shipped. If they offer an over the phone consultation surely a product sent by mail is possible!? Perhaps that is bogus too!! Advice anyone?

  9. Peanut butter bars? They weren’t the tainted ones, were they?

Maybe people were lucky to NOT get their prepaid bars… at least the PB ones.

  10. I UNDERSTAND HOW PEOPLE FEEL AND I HOPE THERE WILL BE A LAWSUIT AGAINST THE LA WEIGHT LOSS CENTERS FOR TAKING OUR MONEY. ESPECIALLY WHEN THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MANY OF YEARS. I THINK THE HEAD OWNER SHOULD PAY EVERYONE ONE BACK IN FULL FOR TAKING PEOPLE THAT WANT TO TAKE THE WEIGHT OFF. SHOULD ASK MR. HAROLD KATZ HOW HE IS SPENDING OUR MONEY AND WE TRY TO GET IT BACK. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE $1300 BACK THAT ALL OF US HAVE TO PAY FOR CREDIT CARDS (LIKE CARE CREDIT) FOR PRODUCT THAT WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED BUT PAYING FOR.

  11. I agree they should have a class action lawsuit against them if it isnt in process already and hopefully some attorney is reading all of these?!…

  12. I also signed a contract for myself and my son for 2000.00. It was paid in full by Care Credit. LA Weightloss closed down 1 month later. They offered a substitute offfice 2 hours away. Then they went bankrupt the following month. I even paid GE Moneybank for 2 years for nothing, just to keep my credit good. But I stopped and tried to explain through documentation what had happened. Now GE money bank is suiing me for 3800.00 dollars. I will contact my district atty and see what I can do. Anyone else out there with this still going on?
