LA WEIGHT LOSS: Employee Alleges Unethical Closing Practices

October 17, 2008 by

Sarah states that she was encouraged to sell long-term contracts prior to closing:
“A FEW DAYS AGO I WAS GIVEN THAT INFORMATION AS WELL. I LEFT MY POSITION AT L.A. WEIGHTLOSS 2 WEEKS AGO BECAUSE I KNEW THAT SOMETHING “FISHY” WAS GOING ON. I WAS TOLD VIA MY SUPERIOR THAT, IN NOT SO MANY WORDS, I HAD TO CONFORM TO THE RULES OR SEEK OTHER EMPLOYMENT. THE NEW “RULES” WERE TO CALL PEOPLE ALL DAY AND BASICALLY ASK THEM TO COME BACK IN AND TRY TO SELL THEM SOMETHING, ANYTHING!! IM SORRY TO SAY, BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT I WAS HIRED TO DO NOR DOES IT MAKE ME HAVE THAT “FEEL GOOD FEELING ABOUT MYSELF”…. I TOTALLY SAW WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND WAS KINDA FORCED OUT SINCE I WASN’T BEING A GOOD ROLL MODEL TO THE OTHER EMPLOYEES. ( I HAD WORKED THERE QUIT AWHILE). I UNDERSTAND THAT THE ONES STAYING OPEN ARE ONLY OFFEREING ONE TYPE OF PROGRAM THAT NEEDS TO BE PAID FOR BY C.C. AND HAS AN AUTO RE-NEW CONTRACT ON IT TO BE CHARGED EVERY 6 WEEKS… WHAT THE ????? IM NOT HAPPY ABOUT SEEING THIS COMPANY GO THROUGH THIS, BECAUSE IT IS A GREAT PROGRAM, BUT JUST THINK THAT NEW AND CURRENT CLIENTS SHOULD BE “SMART” AND DO THEIR RESEARCH PRIOR TO JOINING “ANY” KIND OF PROGRAM IN THIS BLEAK TIME.”

I worked for LA Weightloss and they had a very good program but to be honest they always had very pushy practices as far as selling products. I was a manager for the uptown location in NYC. They were always very strict as far as calling customers and trying to sell them product. I loved helping people lose weight and enjoyed my clients. They had very good products but their selling technique was barbaric.

Right now people can barely afford to eat no less afford a very expensive diet program. Normally we are bombarded with Weight Watcher ads on TV. You dont see any of that or any of the other competitors. It is a sign of the times.

I was a sales Counselor for LA weight loss who then changed their name to Pure Weight loss. I loved to working with the clients and I really believed in the program. What made me extremely upset was when I found out tuesday morning that by the next week I would no longer have a job. The night before, I sold an A package for 1300 dollars. I had no idea that they would be closing the door. It really bothered me that they never told me and let us sell product like that!!! What makes it worse is that the headquarters was located in PA and people knew me around town. The corporation does not have to run into clients who want a refund, I do and I do not even have the information so that I can help them. I still run into clients who do not have their refund and it has been close to 2 years!!

UTAH!!! Does anybody have any info on a lawsuit for Utah? I purchased “bulk” bars months ago and they would never let me take them all at once. They would make me come back every few weeks or month to take a few boxes at a time. They owe me many boxes of bars that I have already paid for.

If anybody has any insight….I would greatly appreciate it.

Beware. Those customers who signed a contract are being reported as in default to the credit reporting agencies, regardless of the fact that the product was never delivered, the store fronts are gone, and it is virtually impossible to get in contact with the company. The debt, originally owned by Care Credit/GEMB is now being resold to third parties who are also reporting the debt and are now attempting to collect an astronomical amount of money from my wife and threatening legal action. Has anyone else dealt with this yet? If so, what actions have you taken to correct or dispute this? What has the response been?
