Well that doesn’t help the fact that she lost her money. It sounds to me like you are just trying to promote another weight loss buisness.

I too am in the same boat as the rest who have lost their money, at least I did receive one of my rebates before the Eugene, OR shut down. Went the online route, now nothing, still send in my weight once a week but have heard nothing for quite some time and no response coming from my counselor, no matter what I ask, so will chalk it up to money down the drain.

Salem, Oregon location is also closed – and I’d paid through October of this year. Been awhile since I’d been back (usual “new year” slump) – guess I missed my chance. Would love to know if there’s any chance of refunds but from reading through this I’m guessing no….

My center closed December 1. We haven’t received our refunds, yet. I’ve made phone calls and sent e-mails. Does anyone think I should pursue this or just give up?

This message is to the former employees of LA Weight Loss Clinics that have closed: Please contact me via email. I know there were many people affected by the abrupt closings of the LA Weight Loss Centers. Patients, employees & the franchisees. I have had many patients tell me they have been so successful on the program, but I know by experience the program is only half of component, the encouragers/motivators (you) are the other half and most important part of these successes. I have a business idea that may provide services back to the patients, a profitable business back to the franchisees and jobs back to the employees. Most people that have ever been employeed in the weight loss business LOVE what they do. And therefore are very valuable.

To IG,

All 21 centers in Toronto, ON have closed as of Dec 5/08 so it is not just the Maritimes in Canada that have closed. If you feel that your market may be closing, it probably is. I know that in the GTA we kept being told that ‘don’t worry, all is good’ etc but we all had a feeling. The following are the warning signs that happened in GTA as well as in other markets from what I read:
- It started with centres merging with one another (ex. The Burlington Centre merged with the Oakville centre)
- Then the staff hours were cut originally and then the centre was only open Mon, Wed and Fri’s
- We were running on only 1-2 staff members at a time
- Shipments were minimal and we were always not getting our whole orders
- Instead of the usual 52 week programs it changed to only 26 week programs, then only sell 12 week programs and then onlmy sell 4 week programs
- Care Credit option was terminated

I do not know if all the other markets will be closing but as a personal opinion, I don’t know how it is possible for the other markets to survive given the past bad press and now the current bad press about centres simply closing down with no notice and clients out a lot of $$. Also, with Head Office’s staff being cut down to 10% of what it used to be, I have heard (don’t know though) that bankruptcy is something that will be coming soon??/

I hope this helps and I hope that I am wrong and that your market will survive as I truly feel that LAWL is a great program and most of the front line staff are great as well, what is happenening is very unfortunate to both clients and staff.

A question for you…how have your centre and market sales been like over the past 6 mths? Have you noticed a dip in sales? Have you been impacted by all of the ‘wrong doings’?

Being a current employee of LAWL any responses from a reliable source would be appreciated. Although none of our regional centers have closed (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba) ..yet, it feels as though it is only a matter of time. Our center has recently discontinued the use of Care credit, and our stock orders are lacking with each order, and employees hours are being cut… with centers closing in Eastern Canada, not to forget hundreds in the US it doesn’t seem far fetched that ours are next. Any other signs to be aware of? or information?

Guess I should cool my jets. My apologies. I am an ex-emloyee and have been sad and disenchanted with the way this company has handled all matters of business.
No problem. Sorry you had to go through what you did. Thanks for your comments and participation here… Your insights help others avoid the same mistakes and pitfalls.
What’s a shame is that this costs people more than money… costs them the ability to trust others, and further damages already battered self esteems.
It’s easy to forget, too, that he employees stand to lose even more than the members. Last year it was Pure Weight loss that handed out pink slips for Christmas.
